A guided tour designed for families

Versailles is a spectacular site, but also one governed by many codes and rules. During this Versailles family tour, we help children understand the purpose of the palace, who lived there, and what daily life was like, while also providing parents with historical and cultural context.

The visit focuses on observation, understanding, and discussion, without overwhelming participants with too much information.

Why this tour is ideal for families

Visiting the Palace of Versailles with children can quickly feel overwhelming. Our Versailles family tour has been designed to make this iconic site accessible to families, with a clear itinerary, age-appropriate explanations, and a comfortable pace for both children and adults.

What children will observe and understand

Throughout our Versailles family tour, children will discover in particular:

– why the king lived in Versailles rather than in Paris,
– how daily life at court functioned,
– what the decorations, paintings, and symbols reveal,
– and how Versailles became a model for other palaces across Europe.

A few anecdotes to discover before the tour

The Palace of Versailles was not always the palace we know today. Originally, it was a simple hunting lodge. Over the course of successive reigns, the site was transformed into a vast palace designed both to impress and to organize court life around the king.

Some of the rooms visited during this tour were primarily political spaces, far more than purely decorative ones.

Can I come with a stroller?

Some areas are accessible, while others are much less so. Overall, for both our indoor and outdoor tours, we strongly recommend using a baby carrier rather than a stroller.

Are there cloakrooms, and what can I leave there?

In most venues, cloakrooms are available for coats and small bags. However, it is very rare to be allowed into a monument or museum with a suitcase or large bags.
